The history of Tollygunge Homes goes back to over 100 years when it was established to provide a home for indigent senior citizens of the city. At present there are fifteen male and fourteen female residents, most of whom have no relatives or means of support.
The Tollygunge Homes is financed by the EICT along with a grant from Help-the-Aged, London. The residents are provided all meals, clothes and pocket money to purchase articles of personal use. They are looked after by a resident Superintendent and Nursing sister, and a Doctor visits them once a week.
The Homes is spread over an area of almost 7 acres and part of the grounds is utilized for growing fruits and vegetables.
