Loneliness

Published 2012-12-09 05:28
Loneliness is something all of us have faced during many phases of our lives, little realizing that the process of isolation had begun the moment we were born and started the long journey developing as individuals. Yet, there was always the conflicting human need for the company of others which made us seek refuge and comfort in relationships and friendship.
We humans want the best of both world; privacy and solitude as well as intimacy and socializing. The trick is to strike a fine balance between the two; but it is not always in our control, particularly as we age. The old cliché that it is possible to feel lonely in a crowd is also painfully true. For many people, the word lonely can conjure up an image of an isolated figure in an Old-age home. Yet being alone is not the same as being lonely.

May the coming season of joy bring a big smile of contentment on your faces, dear friends, no matter whether you are alone or in the company of your loved ones or friends. :-)

Blood is thicker than Water?

“Blood is thicker than water”, so say the wise folks; but look closely around you and you will find numerous examples of people helping others and bringing a few moments of sheer joy in the lives of someone not even remotely related to them by blood or ancestry, and from whom they have nothing to gain. Rightly did Aldous Huxley write in the 'Ninth Philosopher's Song' that “Blood, as all men know, than water's thicker / But water's wider, thank the Lord, than blood”.
